Carry On Book Review

Carry On is the story of Simon Snow, a young magician attending the Watford School of Magicks. Simon is also the chosen one, but don't ask his roommate Baz, he will tell you that Simon is the worst chosen one to ever be chosen, and Simon often thinks he's right.
When Simon isn't battling the Insidious Humdrum, he can hardly get his wand to work for him and is just scraping by in his classes.
In Carry On we join Simon, his best friend Penelope, his girlfriend Agatha, and his roommate/nemesis Baz, during their final year of school. Baz doesn't show up after Simon caught him with Agatha late one night in a compromising position, which makes Simon even more suspicious of Baz. Simon already thinks the Baz is a vampire.
I can't believe that this was Rainbow Rowell's first fantasy novel. She write fantasy so well I would have thought she had been writing fantasy for years. With every book I read by Rainbow I can't wait for her to write another.
I loved Simon Snows character. Though he has been compared to Harry Potter I did notice some distinct differences. Though Harry isn't as smart as Hermione, magic comes very naturally to Harry. Simon on the other hand has a hard time working out his spells. Sometimes he can't get his wand to work at all let alone produce the right spell he wanted.
I really liked the magic system in Carry On. A lot of the spells come from popular songs, or expressions that we use every day. It was really funny reading along and reading an expression that I use on a daily basis and seeing what kind of spell mimicked it.
I do love me a dual perspective story, and better yet a multiple perspective story! In Carry On we got a little bit from every character. From Simon to Baz to Penelope and many more. I love hearing from different characters, hearing their side of different situations and their own feelings. Of course Rainbow Rowell did and amazing job at capturing all the different characters voices!

(the rest of the review will be spoilery so beware, if you haven't read Carry On I would advice you not to "carry on" (haha) with this review)
I very very much loved the love story within Carry On. When Baz finally confessed that he was in love with Simon I swooned! Reading as their love for each other was discovered and finally acted on was so uplifting! Their first kiss was filled with fire (literally haha) and passion and from that point on they knew where they stood with each other.
The ending of the book was really good but also very sad. When we find out that Baz graduates from Watford but that Simon has lost his magic forever was heartbreaking. But in Simon Snow fashion he shows up to the ceremony to support his man!
I loved Carry On, and gave it 5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommend!
